As a pediatric OT, I look at toddler cooking skills a little differently. Pouring ingredients isn't about helping me - it's about helping them. This is how skill development happens, through repetition not perfection. As skills grow, toddler chefs need less help and gain independence. To set them up for success ( limit the mess!): Start with hand over hand help, let them guide the movement when they are ready, and decrease help until they (and you!) are ready for them to try on their own.
